The timeless work Carmen by George Bizet combines a powerful theme with an absolutely iconic music. One soulful melody follows another, and one can hear the colorful orchestrations, the elaborate roles, the rhythmic dances and the songs. Czech mezzo-soprano Ester Pavl will perform as Carmen. She belongs to this role, both on domestic and European stages, like a red rose. Don José will be played by the most sought-after tenor of our time, Joseph Calleja. It will be his first appearance at the Festival. The trio of exceptional voices will be complemented by local baritone Svatopluk Sem. Selected parts of the iconic opera will be performed by the Prague Philharmonia under the direction of Tomáš Brauner. The choreography by Ji?í Bubení?ek will be choreographed by the soloists of the Rome Opera. The story of love, unbridled passion and the power of fate, which was first brought to the stage 150 years ago, concludes the 34th season of the opera.
